happy new year to me

I guess someone decided to do something about the wealth disparity in the District and held up my adored Marion Barry.

For my own posterity, of the 600,000 tax-paying DC residents, only 50,000 make more than 30K/year. Just from one consulting firm, Barry made an average of 50K during previous years. Furthermore, "As a council member, Barry is paid $92,520 a year. He also is eligible to receive a $34,000 annual pension from the government."

It's a rare condition in this day and age to read any good news on the newspaper page

except today, of course. Buried in today's wonderful news is this nugget:
D.C. Council member and former Mayor Marion Barry is scheduled to appear this afternoon in federal court amid signs that he intends to plead guilty to charges stemming from his failure to file tax returns.
Barry has been under investigation for failing to file federal income tax returns and pay his taxes since 1998, according to two sources close to the probe. The Justice Department today filed two misdemeanor tax-related charges against Barry.
I love Marion Barry for making every day just a little merrier. Seriously, he hasn't paid taxes in seven years... I'm grinning so hard I have tears in my eyes.

Marion Barry, Mayor for Life

Say what you will, how can you not cheer along, Marion Barry, Mayor for Life!

Busted twice for smoking crack, traces of cocaine found on another occasion in his car, maybe none of that quite matters when you've got charisma on your side.

It's all about NPR and DCL: National Public Radio and Delicious Coors Light do a perfect afternoon make
